Exercises

1. What is email?

Ans: E-mail (Electronic mail) allows people to send their message instantly over the network, from one computer to another.

 

2. Define any two communication services on the internet?

Ans:

1. E-Greetings: E-Greetings are greeting cards sent over the computer network.

2. Chatting: Talking with someone using the computer. It enables people to send and receive text message using application software interface like: Gtalk, skype, yahoo messenger, etc.

 

3. What are E-Greetings?
Ans: E-Greetings are the greeting cards sent over the network. These cards are sued for sending wishes on some special occasions like Birthday, Anniversary, etc.

 

4. Distinguish between Cc and Bcc.

Ans:

Cc		Bcc
1.	Cc stands for Carbon copy.	1.	Bcc stands for Blind carbon copy
2.	You can send copy of email to many recipients but all Cc recipients are visible to other recipients.	2.	You can send copy of email to many recipients but Bcc recipients are not visible to anyone.

 

5. How do you attach a file with an email?

Ans: To attach file(s) with an Email click the Attachment button. An ‘Open’ window will appear. Select the file which is to be attached and click the Open. The file will be attached.

 

6. Write any two safeguard points that must be followed while using an email.

Ans:

i) Always consent your elders if you receive any email that embarrassed you.

ii) Do not send your personal details to anyone.

 

7. Write any two advantages and disadvantages of email.

Ans: 

Advantages of email are:

i) Versatile material can be communicated: Not only text, but pictures, videos, and sounds can also be sent as an attachment with an email.

ii) Fast: An email can reach any part of the world within a fraction of seconds. It is far better than postal communication.

 

Disadvantages of email are:

i) Lack of emotion: An email is not written in the person’s handwriting so it lacks the personal touch and attachment.

ii) Threat of virus: A virus can be attached with an email, and if you opened that email, it may corrupt the data stored in your computer. A person using an email should know how to tackle these viruses.

 

8. Write the use of Reply and Forward options.

Ans:

Reply: This action is required to respond to the received mail. By default, reply goes only to the sender of the message. You can add more recipients if you want.

Forward: This action is required to share the mail with other users. You can also do modification while forwarding emails.

 

9. How do you view an email?

Ans: To view an email, the steps are as follows:

i) Sign In with your gmail account. The gmail window will appear.

ii) Click the Inbox on the left pane of the window to view all the received messages.

iii) Various messages will appear in the right pane. Click on any email to read it. The message will be displayed.

 

10. What are web-based programs? Give two examples.

Ans: The various websites which provide the facility of creating email accounts, are termed as web-based or email program. You have to register yourself with these programs by providing your personal details. An email account will be created with the specified email-id and password. For example: www.gmail.com; www.hotmail.com

 

F. Application based questions.

1. Rohan on the occasion of his friend’s birthday wants to send him an e-greeting card. But, he has forgotten the steps to access it. Tell him the proper steps to access and send e-greeting to his friend.

Ans:

i) Open the web browser and type www.123greetings.com in the address bar.

ii) Select the occasion from Category tab.

iii) A number of cards will appear on the screen. Select and click on any one card.

iv) Type sender’s name in the sender’s name box and sender’s email ID in sender’s email box. Similarly type receiver’s name in Receiver’s name box and Receiver’s email ID in receiver’s email box.

v) Type a message and click Send.

 

2. Shaurya is new to the world of internet and he wanted to create an email a/c in gamil. Tell him the steps to do so.

Ans:

i) Open a web browser, like Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Google Chrome. For example, open Google Chrome browser.

ii) Type the URL www.gmail.com in the Address Bar. The home page of Google Mail appears.

iii) Click the Create account. A Registration form appears.

iv) Fill the registration form and click the Next step button.

v) Now, verify your details. If the details entered by you are correct, then your email account will be created and a welcome screen will appear.

vi) Click the Show My Account button. A email account window of gmail will appear.
